Monthly Archives: January 2012

So yeah, it’s year 2012 already and this just the fourth post in this blog. Pretty pathetic, dare I say! I already made a post about year 2011 in Finnish in my KonsoliFIN BBS blog, so if you want to and are actually able read more thorough discussion, you better head there. Here I will try to offer a more compact and little bit different summary.

Year 2011 was most certainly an interesting year. Not only personally, as many dramatic events occurred during the year. I met great new people, tried and did some new things. One of the most interesting journeys of 2011 was KonsoliFIN Podcast, which we started at the beginning of the year. We didn’t really know where it would take us, but now we are already getting ready for our second season. I am thankful to have been able to be a part of that project.

One of the high points of year 2011 was The Gathering, the Xbox Community Network organized event held in Reading, England. I’m not an accustomed traveler, so going abroad – alone, might I add – was an interesting experience at itself. I also got to see some great games and meet awesome people. The highlight of the weekend had to be the Arnold Schwarzenegger imitation contest with Peter Cooper. Although I “lost” I wasn’t sad and I wasn’t even drunk. Oh silly me.

Socializing and trying to improve my social skills have been a central theme recently. Doing videos, podcasts and interviews have certainly helped in that regard. I also helped to give a few presentations about Halo: Anniversary in Digiexpo in early November.

I also gathered some new pieces of hardware. In May I got my new PC up and running. It was one of the best decisions in a long, long time to go ahead and “build” it myself. I’ve been very satisfied it. The new PC has made capturing videos, writing, surfing and anything else computer related – which is almost everything in my life, sadly – easier. It has also given me a chance to make a comeback to the PC gaming scene. It’s been a slow process, but I have already invested more money in Steam than I dare to admit. Portal 2 and Skyrim are two of the bigger games I have enjoyed on PC while I’m doing most of my gaming still on consoles, mainly on Xbox 360.

I finally bought a camera in September, Olympus E-PL2 to be more precise. I also ordered an additional lens for tor the camera. The combination of E-PL2 and Panasonic G 20mm take some excellent pictures. Of course you could always have better and more expensive equipment, but these have served me well thus far. It’s just that *I* need more work getting used to photographing and thinking like a photographer. Maybe I will write something about that later, maybe I won’t. We’ll see.

In the Fall I decided to give my old laptop to my mother as her old computer was kind of a crappy machine. Surprisingly that really made me want to buy a new cell phone, and that I did. I got Samsung Galaxy S II just before Christmas and I’ve been happy with it. Android gaming is nothing special at the moment, but that wasn’t the main point.

The second half of 2011 was really, really busy and I’ve still got some leftover work to do but I’m not complaining. The only real low point of last year was the lack of cats. That’s something that should be corrected going to 2012. I also hope to keep up the trend of experiencing and exploring new things. That should make the last year of mankind worthwhile, at least for me.

Maybe I will publish something actually worth reading in this blog in 2012.
